Meet Joanne Gordon
· The year you became a School Board Member. I became a Charter Board member in August of 2021 at the bequest of Diane Swingley. · Why you choose to serve as a School Board Member? A sentence or two works just fine. I applied for the position because I care about education and students along with community. · Your “official” occupation My official occupation is retired and looking for the most effective way to be a community cheerleader. · Anything else you would like to share – something fun or unique about you? Again, a few words or short sentence or two works great. My adventures in the Milo, Tiller Days Creek Community began during a “Hippie” back to the land migration 42 years ago. Having graduated to position of great grandmother; I have a broad list of experiences From yoga & ballet dance classes to working on a fire crew, doing farm work, nursery work and running a business. Meet Charlie Sawyer
Thank you to all that supported me in my decision to run for the school board in the 2021 election and continue to do so during my term. My wife and I have taught our children for most of their lives and feel passionately about giving them the best foundation possible. The same feeling prompted us to be a part of the board for Days Creek. This is great opportunity. There is so much to learn and do, but it will be worth it. I look forward to the opportunities ahead. A few things you might not know about me: I worked in the golf industry for 22 years as a player and business owner, I climbed wind turbines as a maintenance technician for over 7 years; and, I owned my own business operating a portable sawmill and woodworking. I enjoy fishing, hiking, boating, disc golf or any sport my kids want to play. My wife, four kids and I moved to Days Creek in 2015. We look for all kinds of ways we can invest in our community. I took part in the Ford Family Leadership Program. My wife and I are board members of Dayspring Ranch in Canyonville and Southern Oregon Winter Series which is a disc golf organization for building disc golf opportunities for the future. Meet Laura Stufflebeam
I became a school board member in 2015. I ran for school board because our district had just been through a lot in the closing of Tiller Elementary School and I wanted to represent Tiller and serve the community that I grew up in. My grandfather and father had both served on the Days Creek School Board in the past, and I was always raised to give back and serve your community in any way you are able. Four generations of my family have attended or are currently attending Days Creek School. My husband and I own and operate a logging and land clearing business, S5 Land Services, LLC. I love sports and all that come with them! I feel that the skills learned while being on a team and functioning as a teammate are life skills that will only better you as a person. Learning about respect, teamwork, dedication, selfless-ness, perseverance, competitiveness, commitment and dedication is so important as a student! I believe that these life lessons learned through sports transfer over to a student’s school work and work ethic, which will only benefit their future ambitions. Also - sports are FUN! I have never served in this capacity before. I have a lifelong background in small family owned business, and have previously been a member of the Rotary Club in Klamath Falls.
